Michelle Christina Larsen (aka Mishka) is a New York native with a passion for good writing, strong coffee and sporadic trips to tropical climates.
After a wildly inspiring internship at Refinery29, under the direction of Christene Barberich and Connie Wang, she dove head first into a career in digital content.
She utilized six years of training in fashion design and visual communications to scale the ranks from intern to editorial contributor, copywriter and guest editor before branching out to companies like Victoria’s Secret, J.Crew, John Varvatos and Intermix.
Along the way she also worked with smaller brands locally and online, crafting bios for indie designers and product descriptions for online vintage boutiques.
Michelle launched Hey Mishka (at the time it was called Tchaikovsky Darling) in 2009.
It was originally a lifestyle blog that evolved into a fashion & DIY destination, attracting the attention of countless brands and fashion icons like Patricia Field. She landed several appearances as a DIY expert at Bloomingdale’s SoHo.
In the wake of Hey Mishka’s exponential growth, she became a regular at New York Fashion Week and style-saturated events across New York City before launching Day Job Optional and switching her focus over to teaching women how to launch their own writing careers.
In 2016, Michelle quit her job as a senior level copywriter to travel the world and grow a strong online freelance writing presence.
She navigated a dynamic portfolio of clients for several hours per day from Caribbean beaches and far flung coffee shops, proving that the dream of leaving the rat race behind is entirely achievable if you put your mind to it…
When she’s not writing about Brooklyn-based designers for her neighborhood blog or working one-on-one with clients, she loves traveling, writing fiction, and finding new ways to connect with creative people.
Most recently, with the relaunch of Hey Mishka, she can be seen hunched over her pink Vaio in Brooklyn cafés, guzzling strong coffee and dreaming up blog posts…
