Photo Diary: Christmas in the Hudson Valley
Christmas was pure magic this year. I already miss it. It was a calm, snowy few days where the stress of the world just melted away and there was seemingly no limit to the pastries, coffee, and sparkling wine.
As always, I fled to the woods to relax with family, eat an excessive amount of perfectly soft sugar cookies, and chase around my precious nephew Otto. I got to spend some time with my brothers, too.
Here are a few of those memories in photo form. I wish I could go back and relive the cozy moments, but these snaps will have to do…
One of my favorite gifts this year? This adorable Pusheen mug 😍
It’s been a long time since New York had a white Christmas, so it felt extra special.
My parents’ house looks like Narnia in the snow, so I couldn’t stop myself from pulling on snow boots and trudging out into the fluffy white landscape early in the morning on December 25th to capture the scene.
On Christmas evening we went to my Aunt’s house (another Christmas tradition) and marveled at her enormous tree. It’s always spectacular.
…but there’s nothing like our family Christmas tree. Cue the warm fuzzies!
Finley, my cousin’s pup, is a living teddy bear. She’s also getting famous on the internet, I hear. You can follow her on Instagram.
After a year that felt kind of drab, this was a special way to send it off. There’s something about being home, surrounded by snow and the quiet of the woods, that resets my brain and makes me feel ready to tackle life again.
I boarded my train back to NYC today feeling extra grateful (and extra full).
I hope you all had a magical holiday season. See you in the new year!
