2021 is here, and so is my January vlog! ❄️
This month, I’ve been thinking a lot about context and expectations. The beginning of a new year is full of hope and potential (and in the case of 2021, relief). But when the shimmer of New Year’s Eve fades, we’re left with our lives as they are, in the stark overcast light of New York winter.
The overflowing inbox, the Christmas cards we neglected to send, the list of goals we forgot to finalize…
The same problems of the past year—the same challenges and questions—follow us into the new one. And why shouldn’t they? Time heals, but it doesn’t magically wipe the slate clean. It’s up to us to create change if we want it.
This is something I’ve been mulling over this month. I guess trying to create change in your life in the midst of a pandemic presents a unique set of challenges. So I’ve been digging deep for motivation and trying to be kind to myself at the same time.
Anyway, January was relatively introverted. There were solitary walks in the snow, lattes under the clang and clatter of the train tracks, and sketching sessions in my little home office. I managed to see a few friends and embrace the newness of it all, even though things haven’t changed that much.
I remain an optimist even in the darkest moments, and I trust that it’s all leading up to something good. We just have to keep hanging in there.
Here’s a look at the first month of the new year:
If you like vlogs and cozy content, don’t forget to subscribe to the Hey Mishka YouTube channel! One of my resolutions is to post there a lot more. 😉
Here are a few snaps from January:
And now I’m going to mop up the snow puddles by the door, brew myself a nice cup of rose and Earl Grey tea, and see what February brings…
Until next time, stay safe.
