March was nothing if not eventful. To kick it all off, I said goodbye to a brand I’ve been working with for yearsโan admittedly scary freelance career move. We witnessed the dazzling city skyline at Westlight (a literal high) and tested positive for COVID-19 (a literal low, seeing as I couldn’t get out of bed).
After weeks of recovery, we celebrated E’s birthday and caught the first hints of spring here in Brooklyn. Of course, there were many moments in between.
Watch the vlog below, and don’t forget to subscribe to the Hey Mishka YouTube Channel for cozy, creative videos… and a peek into my life in NYC.
๐ Regarding the COVID-19 experience: This video reflects my own experience and is not meant to constitute any kind of official commentary or advice. We were able to trace the virus back to a single encounter that was, unfortunately, unavoidable.ย The person knew they were ill, but didn’t know they had ‘rona, so they didn’t say anything. That’s why it’s so important to get tested if you’re not feeling good.ย While recovery felt like hell, we were lucky that we didn’t have to go to the ER. We plan to continue wearing masks and following protocol here in NYC. Be safe out there, friends.

In this video, I promised to share my elixir recipe, which helped me feel a bit better while fighting off the virus. I’ve shared it many times on the blog and on social, but I’ll never stop sharing it. This concoction is all-natural, potent, and even cozy once you get past the intense taste!
ULTIMATE ELIXIR โจ๐
– 3 sliced lemons
– 2 tablespoons of grated ginger
– 2 cloves of minced garlic
– 4-5 shakes of cayenne pepper (the more you can handle, the better)
– 5 cups of waterSimmer all ingredients until lemons are soft/pale. Strain portion into a mug, add honey until you can tolerate the taste. The mixture can be stored in the fridge and reheated up to 24 hours.
Stay well out there, friends.

Here are a few snaps from March, starting with the “coffee mug” I ordered on eBay without checking the actual size:
I kicked off the month by dropping off my work laptop and officially wrapping up one of my longest-running client relationships. It was a nice excuse to go into the city, which I haven’t done in months.
Manhattan was empty. It was so weird!
I saw Westlight’s Vale Rink on Melissa Male‘s IG and had to book a dinner date with E. We haven’t had any date-type dinners since the pandemic began, but this was so worth it.
I tried to cozy up my home office corner as the temperatures plummeted outside. It’s been a true winter, that’s for sure.
We went to the clinic for a COVID-19 test when E wasn’t feeling well. Sure enough, we both tested positive. Recovery took some time and the experience was pretty horrible (I went into detail in the vlog) but we supported one another through it.
We took this selfie to commemorate the day we finally tested negative, weeks later:
On that same day, my beautiful new laptop arrived!
We used our newfound energy to start tidying up the backyard for spring. I’m excited to show you guys the progress.
Since COVID wiped out my energy, I still spent a few days in bed after we tested negative. Did you know Hulu has an add-on for vintage cartoons? ๐
Little by little, things returned to “normal”. And by that, I mean pandemic normal.
And finally, we celebrated E’s birthday!
We were hyped to eat these elotes even though we still didn’t have our sense of taste/smell back yet. ๐ญ
See you next time!
