Happy spring, friends! I have a lot to catch up on, from sharing vlogs that never quite made it to the blog (they’re over on my channel, if you’re eager to see them) to uploading my new spring branding. But I couldn’t pass up the chance to share a few quick ideas for a spring reset this year.
As a new mom and a very “seasonal” person (is that a thing? I love living according to the seasons) it was essential for me to hit refresh on my life when I saw the first buds appearing on the trees here in Brooklyn.
Here are some of the things I did. I hope these tips will help you refresh your life for spring—and the rest of 2023.
1. Refresh your personal style
Let’s start with something fun. Spring is a great time to switch up your wardrobe and incorporate some new pieces. If there’s a trend or an aesthetic you’ve been meaning to try out, use this as your opportunity to experiment.
Not sure where to start? It’s “pastel szn” according to TikTok, and I can’t really argue with that. I’ve always loved how powder pink, mint green, and muted peach turns my closet into a dreamy wonderland of soft-hues.
If you’re not into pastels, no worries. Try wearing clothes that are bright, clean, and elevated (you can’t go wrong with a white tailored shirt dress, for example). If you’re feeling bold, how about prints? Spring florals are a given, but they’re not the only option.
2. Audit & update your routines
Routines, both conscious and unconscious, add up to the kind of life we live. If we really want to change our lives, we needn’t look much further than our mundane daily activities. One of my forever-favorite gems from a mentor is “You can predict your future by looking at what you’re doing today” (paraphrased).
If you’ve been meaning to take advantage of an earlier wake-up time to work on a project or get some reading in, make that your spring ritual. If you’ve been wanting to journal, add (or subtract) steps from your skincare routine, or start a family brunch tradition, now is the perfect time.
You get the idea. Since spring energy is all about lightness and newness, try cutting out heavy stuff and adding more fun, joyful stuff.
3. Set aside some “me” time
You knew there would be a self-care tip in here, right? It’d be a shame if we muddied the pure, optimistic energy of spring with hustle-and-grind mode 24/7. And I’m saying this as an addicted-to-the-grind freelancer!
Spring is the season to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and recharge your batteries. Spend some time alone, meditate (even if you just end up daydreaming), or simply take a few moments to reflect on the year so far.
Even free-spirited creatives tend to spend a lot of their time doing things for other people. Take the time to do something that makes you feel good and allows you to reconnect with yourself. You won’t regret it.
4. Tap back into your creativity
Creativity is a huge part of my life (I made a whole video about that), but I definitely have seasons where my muse is nowhere to be found—and those days are more frequent than not ever since the birth of our daughter. This isn’t surprising, but it’s something I’d like to work on.
Reigniting my creativity looks different than it used to, but I’ve been using spring as my excuse to get back to sketching, vlogging and editing, designing clothes, planning cute little DIY projects, and more.
I hope that, as my daughter gets older, I can fulfill my destiny of being a fun, pastry-baking, bead-sewing, DIY-tastic mom. But for now, I’m just doing a little bit here and there, whenever it makes sense. I encourage you to do the same!
Spring is a season of renewal and optimism. As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, it’s the perfect time to tap into creativity and optimism.
I hope these tips help you get inspired for the season!
P.S. Don’t forget to come and hang out with me on YouTube and IG!
