Welcome!
Hey, I'm Mishka
The Hey Mishka blog is a cozy online space where seasonal celebrations, DIY inspiration, and optimism thrive. Get motivated to work on projects big and small, set goals, jot down ideas, and make your week a little more creative.
I’m Mishka—aka Michelle Christina—a Brooklyn-based writer and crafty creator sharing daily life in NYC. I’m an optimistic Libra and a bit of a homebody who loves sipping tea, rainy (and snowy) days, finding ways to make life a bit more magical.
I launched Hey Mishka in 2008 to stay inspired during fashion school. Who knew that this blog, along with my YouTube channel, would turn into my most-adored activity?
The Hey Mishka Story
How it All Began
👉 I clicked the button that fatefully launched Hey Mishka on January 7th, 2008. I was an exhausted fashion design student looking for a new creative outlet.
In the spirit of honesty, some of that exhaustion was from taking full advantage of the social life NYC offers a young Libra. Despite a heavy courseload, I always found time to sew gaudy nightlife outfits and pretend I was in an episode of Gossip Girl. (In fact, I was interning at one of the brands that supplied some of Gossip Girl’s wardrobe).
At the dawn of fashion blogging’s most formative era, I decided to carve out my own little slice of the internet to share sewing projects, vintage clothing finds, and what it was like to be a fashion student in NYC. While the blog started with another name, it evolved into “Hey Mishka” per a nickname I was given by my adopted nightlife family.
After graduating, I was offered an internship at Refinery29, then a still emerging website operating from a cramped Tribeca basement. I cranked out articles on indie designers and It-girls by day and wrote for my own blog by night.
With a VIP pass to the fashion world (and places I felt far too uncool to occupy) I fell completely in love with content creation. I was offered an editorial contributor role and transitioned into marketing copywriter, eventually going solo to launch my freelance career.
In 2011, Hey Mishka was receiving enough recognition to get me on the list of fashion shows and events as an independent writer. I’ll never forget the first time a PR girl pointed out my blog’s name on a guest list. Achievement unlocked!
Bloomingdale’s SoHo invited me to host in-store DIY events. Patricia field invited me to style pieces during a trip to South America. I was gifted product from brands around the world. But best of all, I realized that blogging was a therapeutic way to satisfy my creative impulses.
Over the years, Hey Mishka has simmered down to something more cozy and familiar, perhaps parallel to life itself. This is where I come to create, share, and dream, now with less urgency and more intention. And I can’t thank you enough for being here. 🧡
